My Why:
In the fall of 2013, at three months postpartum, I saw an e-mail on the ListServ about a free preview class for Body Back. It was the first time my husband was going to put our daughter to bed. I had a little bit of anxiety about that, just because it had always been me, but I walked out the door and didn’t look back. Sure, I was in the worst shape of my life. My abs were shot, my back was sore, and my posture wasn’t at its best, but after one class, I felt like the program would really help me get my body back. I mean, it had to be called Body Back for a reason! By the end of the first session, I felt great, had lost a good bit of weight, and I was eating healthier overall. My husband could put my daughter to bed as if he’d been doing it forever, and I had connected with a group of great neighborhood moms. Joining that session of Body Back was a great move for me, and for my family as a whole.

Another session began in the winter, and though it was a smaller group than the first, I still committed to it, and loved every workout! By the end of that session, I was 28 pounds lighter than my pre-pregnancy weight and needed to go shopping for all new clothes. I still can’t wrap my head around that fact sometimes.

Towards the end of the winter session, it was announced that FIT4MOM Baltimore City would be going up for sale. If I could lose all of my baby weight, plus 28 pounds, I knew that the program worked, and I knew that I wanted all of the FIT4MOM programs to continue for me and for all moms throughout Baltimore City. Now, as the owner of the Baltimore City franchise, I hope to provide moms with everything I gained from Body Back- endurance, strength, confidence, and more!

I started coming to Stroller Strides to meet new moms in my community and try a different kind of work out. FIT4MOM Certified Running Coach

My Why:
I am a proud mom to amazing and energetic twin boys, and I am passionate about running and fitness. I have been a runner since high school, and I have competed in over forty races ranging from 5Ks to a marathon, as well as triathlons. After having twins, running and many other forms of exercise were a struggle for me because I no longer had the core strength and stability that I had in the past. Through patience, hard work, and a more balanced approach to fitness, I have been able to rebuild my core and return to running and racing with success. I hope to use my experience to motivate other moms, and I look forward to coaching and cheering on our Run Club team members.

FIT4MOM Certified Running Coach

My Why:

Before I had kids, I ran several times a week. It helped with my stress and anxiety and kept me feeling healthy and strong. But about halfway through my first pregnancy, I started to feel painfully uncomfortable during my runs. So I walked for the rest of my pregnancy then took a long break after my daughter was born in 2012. I picked up running again after my son arrived in 2014, but I still only got out about once every few weeks.

Then in 2016, when my son turned two, I wanted to get back into consistent running again. I had run my last half marathon five years earlier, and I wanted to prove to myself that I could still run that distance as a mom. I had always enjoyed training for races with a group, so when I found FIT4MOM, I knew I had to sign up. Having a team to meet up with every week and to hold me accountable for a certain number of miles was a huge help. The coach was a wealth of knowledge and always supportive and encouraging. It was also nice to talk to other moms. The group was friendly, so even as a quieter person, I had nice conversations on our runs.

Since being a part of FIT4MOM was a great experience, I knew I had to apply to be a Run Coach. I’m excited to be a part of the team. It’s an amazing feeling to cross the finish line at a race, and I’m so happy to be able to help other moms get there.

FIT4MOM Certified Running Coach

My Why:
I'm a relatively new Baltimorean and Mom to Coen, my 9-month old little dude. My love for running started in my younger years, but was rekindled thanks to my best friend who convinced me that running a marathon was a good idea. Many years later and I'm still hooked. Running is a sport that can evolve with you - single, coupled, parenting, young, old, middle of nowhere or in a big city, fast, slow, in for a bit or in for a long one - no matter where you find yourself, you can always go for a run. It's also very forgiving (for the most part) to those of us who are coordination challenged - one foot in front of the other - check!! I'm so excited to have the chance to lead some fabulous ladies to a finish line. Together we're going to make one heck of a Badass Lady Gang!!

FIT4MOM Certified Fit4Baby and Stroller Strides Instructor

My Why:
I’ve tried to be active since my college days because exercise helps me cope with stress, boosts my confidence, and forces me to be in the present moment. I have always practiced yoga and ran to keep in shape and had been teaching for a few years at BambooMoves Yoga, when I found out about Fit4Mom.

I took my first class when I was eight months pregnant with my second child, Cecilia. It was a Stroller Strides class that had me pushing my limits and pushing my two year old son, Eli all over Federal Hill Park. I remember feeling so accomplished after that class and so thankful for the knowledgeable instructor who gave me modifications when I needed it, but also allowed to make my own decisions about what was right for my body. However, the thing that I absolutely loved the most was that the other Moms were so supportive. Even though I barely knew these women, we formed an instant community as we cheered each other through the workout.

When the opportunity came to teach Stroller Strides, I knew I had to do it. It is such a privilege to share an awesome workout with the wonderful Mommas of Baltimore City and their little ones. Know that even as I’m telling you to work harder and move faster, I’m always cheering you on!

Meet Morgan! She's our first Mom of the Month from our Body Back classes, though she also attended Stroller Strides while on maternity leave. Even though this interview was our initial meeting, she impressed me with her calm and poise. It was also pretty fun to do an interview with someone in non-workout clothes at a bar! We met at 1157 Bar and Kitchen for a drink and enjoyable mommy conversation!
