Mother's Day Weekend Wellness

We know Mother's Day will look different this year in the midst of a pandemic, but we're here to help you make the most of it!

Mamas in Our Village and their friends are invited to gather for a 90-minute wellness “retreat”, complete with movement, meditation, DIY facials, and a toast to our shared journey! Please join us Saturday, May 9th at 9am in place of our regular Stroller Strides offering. Enroll here. We've even created a coupon to give to your partner in exchange for this time for YOU! Get coupon here. If you can't make it Saturday morning, we're going to outline all the things you'll need to celebrate this special day on your own or with your mom squad at another time.

Whether you're able to participate in real time or not, a little planning is needed! If you don't already have a face mask and your favorite brunch beverage ingredients at home, check out the recipes that follow. Add missing ingredients to your grocery list, and make sure you have them in time! Not planning to go shopping before then? Ask a neighbor or nearby mama in the neighborhood if she has ingredients to share!

Movement

Heather will be leading the movement portion of the retreat, but if you're doing this at another time, perform the five restorative exercises as described on this FIT4MOM blog post. Remember to connect with your breath throughout each movement, and move your body with intention.

Meditation

Theresa will be leading our group meditation, but if you will be doing this at another time, we’ve got you covered! Get comfortable, and let FIT4MOM founder Lisa Druxman guide you through a 6-minute meditation. Remember that meditation is a practice. Your mind will wander, and that's ok. Come back to Lisa's voice, and let yourself be. Just be.

DIY Facial

Mother's Day at Home (1).png

We found an article from Elle UK with several homemade face mask recipes for all skin types with two to three ingredients you likely have in your kitchen. If there's an ingredient you need, ask a neighbor or put it on your grocery list!

You can read the article for an explanation of each mask and how it works for each skin type, or let us save you a few minutes and browse the basics:

Hydrate & Nourish: 1/2 Avocado; 1 tablespoon of honey; a handful of oats or oat bran.

Improve Uneven Skin Texture And Tone: 1 tablespoon of natural, plain yogurt; 1 tablespoon of honey; 1 tablespoon of turmeric powder.

An Otherworldly Glow: 1 tablespoon of cacao powder; 1/4 papaya; a squeeze of Aloe Vera gel.

Fight Acne And Blemishes: 1 tablespoon of manuka honey; 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder; 1/2 teaspoon of Dead Sea salt.

Minimise Enlarged Pores: 1 egg white; 1 tablespoon of honey; a little squeeze of lemon juice.

Combat Oily Skin: Half an avocado; 1/4 cucumber, blended.

Protect Against Pollution: A handful of ground almonds; 2 tablespoons of olive oil.

If you're doing this with us, we'll give you time and guidance mixing your ingredeints. If on your own time, mix ingredients just before application. Apply to your face with clean hands or a clean foundation brush. While you let the mask work its magic, we recommend you mix yourself a fancy bevvie (recipes follow!). Rinse with warm water 10-15 minutes after application.

A Toast to Us

While wearing your face mask, fix yourself your favorite brunch beverage, or use one of these three-ingredeint recipes before raising a glass to this crazy beautiful journey!

Cranberry Orange Mimosa Bellini

If you're interested in an alcoholic beverage, you might try this mimosa (pictured above) from Crazy for Crust:

  • 2 ounces cranberry juice
  • 1 ounce orange juice
  • Chilled Champagne or Prosecco to fill the glass

Sparkling Fruit Punch

If you'd prefer a non-alcoholic option, this recipe from Celebrations at Home fills a half gallon pitcher, so you can enjoy it throughout the day, and/or share it with your whole family!

  • 2 cups White Grape Juice
  • 2 cups Orange Juice
  • 4 cups Ginger Ale or Sparkling Water, chilled

Cheers, Mama! And Happy Mother's Day!

Later on May 9th...
